In this episode, Maktaba (facing probable death in a duel in the morning) wrote letters to his friends and asked Petra to deliver them. Petra being Petra immediately opened hers, over came the encryption and read the following:
I apologize for the inconvenience, but I assume that you will read this immediately instead of waiting for my demise. Please pardon my poor attempts at keeping my thoughts safe until I can no longer express them.
More to follow,
(The remainder of the letter is encrypted with a historical cypher DC 15 Int, History check 13 reduces the DC to 10)
Thank you for your patience, enforced or natural. I know that you have concerns about your past and I ask that you put them aside, for my sake if not your own. I admit that your recent revelation has given me some pause, but I have come to realize that the person that made those choices and performed those actions no longer exists. The Petra I have had the honor of knowing is a kind person who isn't capable of the actions of that non existant person you share a body with. In as much as I am able, let me absolve you of her sins. Let her actions rest with her death and rejoice in the life you have now. You have my trust, always.
I regret that I was not able to help you with your separation problem with Aelfonn and I hope you can forgive me my failing. If I have any right after my failure, may I ask you to look to Sal. Keep her from Ravos, restrain her if you must. For all her outward agression, she is a good researcher and may yet succeeed where I have failed you. Selfish, I know, but such a project may help her as well as you.
Please know that I am honored to call you a friend and comrade these years.
