Hi Provinto. More inspired by what you said as opposed to in response to it. I didn't think you were attacking them, or I would have asked you if you were. But it did get me thinking about modules I put out for free 20 years ago when I was in college, that would probably not go over very well now. One of them had a very fat Goblin King who wanted to hire a group of adventurers to clean out a dungeon for him to move his tribe into. Another had a Demonologist who summoned dark beings and was a nymphomaniac. As you can probably imagine, those games written by an 18/19 year old would probably not be something I would hold up as examples of what I would say I enjoy in a game now, or want to be known for. Frankly, they were crude and childish, and heads and shoulders over what I wrote when I was 14 to 17. Thankfully those never made it onto a computer, so are forever lost now.
When I went into teaching 10 years ago, I was warned about how the community would go through every posting I made, and it would be in my best interest to go through and prune my Facebook page heavily. I thought it was a bit of paranoia, but when student teaching one of the teachers the previous year had been let go because of something found on his Facebook page. That started my non-use of Facebook, which eventually resulted in my deletion of my account. It has also kept me from joining Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or any of the other 50-dozen social media platforms preferred by so many.
At the end of the day, I realize that I used to publish a fairly large amount of gaming material online through web pages, module submissions, and other processes (like the HappyJack forums! 🙂 ). Now I pretty much just stick to forums, and one web page for my regular game that I update with pretty generic information. I realize it is a statement about myself more than anything, but I wonder how many are like me in that they would avoid putting out something that might be in any way controversial (if it has my name attached), and what that might mean in lost ideas in the gaming community.
So yes, your comment made me think about what I posted, but no, it wasn't intended to be directed at you. I would have included you if that was the case. My apologies if I made it seem like an attack, it was really more of a musing out loud.
