So much to unpack!
First, I feel terrible, because I promised Kimi I would be a mod and be more active on the forums, but this was 17 days ago and I didn't notice!
OK, @EricfromNJ, on to your comments! I didn't want to start the conversations because I didn't want it to seem self-serving. I also talk about Star Trek a lot with other folks in other formats, so I hadn't really instigated anything here. But yes, I will happily engage in all kinds of conversations about Star Trek, I just usually won't start them, because I would start them all the time if I didn't control myself.
But... I'll throw out some of my more controversial opinions and anyone can feel free to leap onto them and spin off a conversation on that topic. (Or any other!)
#1 - DS9 is the best of all Star Trek series, for a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to: overall writing quality, overall story, average quality of actors' performances (obviously Patrick Stewart, Brent Spiner and Kate Mulgrew generally rule over all other Trek actors, but they do all the heavy lifting in their shows, whereas nearly everyone in DS9 gives a top-notch performance throughout.)
#2 - Voyager is the most true in concept to TOS as it put the ship and crew into the unknown with no real backup.
#3 - Q: Kirk v. Picard?
#4 - Pulaski is one of the most underrated and undervalued characters in Star Trek. She received a lot of hate because of how she came in, but in most ways was a much stronger character than anyone else in TNG. She was one of the few characters who would got toe to toe with Picard and challenge him. While that made people hate her, it was exactly why she should've been more celebrated. People walked on eggshells around Picard, but he needed an equal.
#5 - The Kelvin timeline reboots were good. They just should never have tried to re-tell Wrath of Khan. It would've been a fantastic 2nd movie if they had just never called him Khan or connected him to the Eugenics wars. But they were all three really fun action movies with the main characters mostly true to their originals, and I goddamn liked them!
#6 - While it took me a while to learn to value it properly, DISCO is phenomenal. It's not the series I wanted, but it's extremely good. Star Trek is allowed to grow, change and adapt, even though it's difficult for me. For the record, the first episode was the series I wanted. If it had been an entire serial adventure of the crew of the Shenzhou with Captain Georgiou, I would've been in heaven. But what it's become is a new direction for Trek, and I've learned to be okay with it.
#7 - Klingons generally suck in anything but the smallest of doses. I don't like them.
#8 - FREE BAJOR! BAJOR FOR BAJORANS!
#9 - But... Cardassians are sexy af.
