A point of rules clarification for you folks on skill adjacency in Mongoose Traveller. For a number of skills which have various sub-specialties, such as engineering and electronics, having a rank in any of the sub-specialties automatically gives you all the rest at 0.
Vesa has Engineer:Jump Drive 1. This automatically grants him
Engineer: Power 0
Engineer: Maneuver Drive 0
Engineer: Life Support 0
Someone else has Electronics: Computers 1, which automatically grants them:
Electronics: Comms 0
Electronics: Sensors 0
Someone has Gun Combat: Slug Thrower 2, which grants them 0 ranks in laser, archaic, etc...
I point this out since Stu's on-the fly ruling of -2 (instead of the normal -3 for unskilled rolls) still makes it very difficult to get an 8 on 2d6. Personally I'd use the -2 rule if you're trying to justify the use of an entirely different skill-set (i.e. I'm going to use my Athletics😃ex skill to sneak, instead of Recon)
Loving the campaign, but just wanted to offer a bit of rules clarification/advice.
