Well, I ran session zero of the game, and from there ran a little introductory scenario putting them in media res of a vampire hunt.
I screwed things up royally and found BIG GAPING HOLES in my understanding of Monster of the Week. In short, I am an idiot.
First, the players decided they want to set the game in a fixed location. I am all like "OK, someplace like Philly or NYC?" and they respond with "We really want to be set in LONDON!!!!" OK, so thank god we play once a month because now I am doing research on London and trying to figure out a city I know nothing about.
Character Creation went well. I started with using 2 history questions for each but everyone was having so much fun they wanted to have ties to each other so that worked.
Use Magic...I mentioned that use magic was to cast spells. EVERYONE wanted to cast spells when it came to the vampire minions they were dealing with. The Flake, The Mounstrous ("Hey, my Weird is really high!"), it didn't matter. Everyone wanted a shot at it, but is it supposed to work that way? I just rolled with it because I wanted to let the hunters be awesome (and honestly it didn't throw game balance off. The main vampire kicked the Crooked's ass.)
But, it doesn't seem like it should work that way...
Overall the crew had a good time and they said we are learning it together, so they are a great group of players. I recorded the session on Skype so I can refer to it as needed.
I'm just - confused by magic right now.
