So UKGE is done, and I am finally fully recovered from the hell shifts I had to do, so I figure I will get a few things out of the way:
1) Yes there was an incident with a very bad plot line for a few players in a Things from the Flood game. Although not part of the offical staff, I did personally seek the party and GM involved to see how things had gone that far, and I can safely say that the staff of UKGE handled this appropriately, and immediately, and very much instantly are putting in changes so this never happens again. The person in question was not a stranger - and is someone who has run perfectly fine games for years until this incident. I genuinely think there is a discussion to be had for what qualifies as 18+ games in the UK, but for this incident, I am happy for it to just wash away into obscurity outside of con organisation, so the people who had to go through that can have some peace of mind.
2) I didn't get to see much of the halls or the stores, but what I did see was incredible. Four years ago when i first came to this we had a corner of a Large hall, and that was it. Four years later we now have Two halls, and and extra Third just for the Bring and Buy section for people to hand in their items. To say it has grown exponentially is an massive understatement. I have no doubt that this year, we may finally beat Orgins for the Number 3 biggest Tabletop convention in terms of numbers, and then its only a matter of time before we start competing with Essen. Not sure about Gencon though, but I'm definitely looking forward to that.
3) Games on demand was absolutely fantastic. We had 400 players in total over the three day weekend and I can easily see me doubling that in the next few years with more GMs and more prep. It is a very different kettle of fish compared to what the US do, but it works for our system, and it works for us. It is also why I will be working Games on Demand at Gencon this year just so I can see how the pros do it. I just hope all my players had a good time, and will be coming back as GMs for the year after.
