We have differing opinions about this obviously, but I for one wouldn't call the Alien setting "blandly generic". Of the sci-fi settings I've personally taken part of, this is the setting that is one of the most captivating ones. It focuses on things that feel believable (at least for the era in which they were made), and it is arguably one of the most gritty sci-fi settings we've seen.
One thing that does make me wary, is how they are going to treat the setting. What will they include? What will they introduce? As a die-hard fan of the first two films, I've been disappointed so many times by what Hollywood has done to the franchise. You do get a bit jaded.
On the other hand, I also have a large amount of trust in Fria Ligan. They are obviously intelligent people with sound judgement. They also seem to be fans of the original film, so I hope they will do the setting justice.
